Hi Guys,
I just wanted to get some input from the veterans here who have started a business in partnership while they have been waiting for the coveted green card.
What kind of legal paperwork does it take to start a business? I would think as long as you don't work for the business it should be ok? If you can own part of a corporation (stocks), you can be a partner in a business?
Ideas?

The original poster "getrdone" wrongly pressed panic button. There is no change from 2004 thru till now. I went to mexico several times for stamping. I have seen several people who got stamping for H1-H1 & F1-H1 (Safe), H4-H1 & B1-H1 (Lucky guys)...In anycase, taking Mexican Visa (though absolutely not mandatory) is advised

The site appears to be latest. And here is the content
------------------------------------------------------
Who Can Apply in Mexico
* Applicants seeking to renew their C1/D, D, F, H, I, J, L, M, O, P and R visas, if the initial visa was issued in the applicant's home country or at one of the border posts in the past few years.
I guess, if your first visa was issued in the home country, you should be ok to renew before it expires
Notice: Certain visa applicants may be subject to additional administrative processing. This administrative processing may last weeks, thus delaying visa delivery and the applicant's return to the United States. Every effort will be made to expedite these procedures; however, it is not possible to guarantee completion of this process by a particular date.
PIMS !!!
------------------------------------------------------
Who Cannot Apply in Mexico:
* Applicants for B1/2 visas, including renewals are not accepted from third country nationals who are not resident in Mexico.
* Applicants who entered the U.S. with a visa issued in their home country and changed status with Department of Homeland Security in the U.S. who seek a new visa in the new visa category
I guess, this may be the visas expired, continuing on valid I-797 and trying to get new visa on the same category, I am not sure, difficult to interpret
* Applicants who entered the United States in one visa category and are seeking to re-enter the U.S. in a different visa category.
I guess, if you change from F to H, you may be in this category, I am not sure, difficult to interpret
* Applicants who have been out of status in the U.S. having violated the terms of their visas or having overstayed the validity indicated on their I-94s.
* Applicants who entered the U.S. under the auspices of the Visa Waiver Program.
* Applicants who obtained their current visa in a country other than that of their legal residence.
* PLEASE NOTE: If you were informed when you obtained the original visa in your home country that you are subject to National Security Entry Exit Registrations (NSEERs), are a national of North Korea, Cuba, Syria, Sudan or Iran, you are not eligible to renew your visa in Mexico.
*TCN Visa Renewals– Before deciding to apply at a consular section in Mexico, third country nationals should keep in mind that traveling to the country may require the appropriate Mexican visa from a Mexico’s embassy or consulate before making the trip. Potential applicants should be sure they have a visa, if necessary, and are prepared to wait several days in Mexico while their visa is being processed.

EB-1s for Indians and Chinese are also expected to be current. For EB-2, India is expected to have a cut off date of January 8, 2003 and for China the cut off date will be April 22, 2005.
For EB-3, according to Jan, the worldwide cut off date will be August 1, 2002, India will be May 8, 2001 and China will be April 22, 2005.
Jan also reports that 18,000 EB-3 for Indians have been processed in this fiscal year with 8,000 of those cases approved in June and 7,000 in July. By the way, the annual EB-3 limit for Indians is 2,800 so go figure.
Also, approximately 40,000 cases were received at the Texas Service Center on July 2nd and 35,000 were received in Nebraska.
One final amazing fact that Jan has learned - USCIS requested 66,600 (666!) visa numbers from the beginning of the fiscal year through the end of May and 66,800 numbers in June and July.
Why is this good news? Jan 8, 2003 and May 8, 2001 are not good news to me at least.

Glad you liked my thoughts. Just felt this might be a novel and practical campaign rather than doing flowers again or something else.
I think IV can even have such cubes available as IV merchandice and people can donate via a 'Send a F cube to USCIS' button probably !
<< BEGIN: Shameless request :
If you liked my ideas please give me some green dots so I could become eligible for IV chat. :)
END : Shameless request >>

My 140 was filed last week and I don't have the receipt number. Can I file 485 without I140 receipt number?

You need to verify what they are feeling and why they are filling in forms.
Should have knowledge of process and you should be fine with any Attorney.
Unless you go to THE CHEAPEST ATTORNEY who never has experience in handling tough scenarios.

I absolutely HATE it when people put nose-prints on my photos ;-) But yes, that's indeed true - and the opposite: If you don't have good light, even the most expensive lenses wouldn't make any difference - but no-one bothered to tell Steve Mitchell that ;-)
